Explanation of Line Profile Data
Below is a summary of the results of observations of high magnetic field regions. Pairs of sequences were obtained for each day. First, 20 minutes with the KDP in the system to get |B| and second 40 minutes without the KDP to get the raw profile. Profiles were corrected for the instrumental resolution with a profile from a HeNe laser.
The observations prior to 9/30/91 did not include the direct measurement of the magnetic field. They should have been in a low field area but may not have been. All observations without a measured |B| are indicated with a value of 00. Some field strengths have been estimated from the 5250 magnetograms. Those are indicated by an integer value for the field estimate.
The parameters are in two tables: items 1 to 7 in the table giving the line profiles and items 8 to 16 in a separate table. The parameters are:
- date - The usual date in the US format.
- time - U.T. for the KDP in part of the observations.
- |B| - the magnetic field calculated from the separation of the bisectors at ±40 mÅ.
- lat - the solar latitude of the observations in degrees
- cmd - the central meridian distance of the observations in degrees.
- cla - the center to limb angle in degrees derived from the above angles.
- mu - cosine of the center to limb angle.
- width - (I-1d2 I/dλ2)-1/2 in Ås
- ave sl - the average of the |blue| and red slopes in Å-1: (I-1 dI/dλ)-1
- blue sl- the blue slope.
- red sl - the red slope.
- Icore - the value of I/Ic at the zero slope point at the center of the line.
- I40 - the value of I/Ic averaged at ±40 milli-Ås from line core
- ew - the equivalent width in Ås.
- Bx - the parameter defined by equation (7) of IP requirements version 2.0
- Idepth/Ic - the ratio of Idepth from equation (1) to Ic from equation (4) IP requirements 2.0 .
